Maddi's Fridge

Sofi and Maddie are best friends.  They play every day together. The playground is their favorite place to climb, run, and have fun.  Maddi and Sofi are pretty much like most kids, except that Maddi has a problem that is all too familiar these days.  She is hungry.

The story depicts some childhood difficulties, children trying to help children, secrets that can’t be kept, siblings that care about each other, and friends that show their compassion with generosity.

Maddi’s Fridge is a wonderful book for Kids.  It teaches children to share, to be companionate, and to know that sometimes it’s not good to keep a secret.  While this delightful little book brings hunger awareness to children, its pages are also filled with fun.

The Author Lois Brandt, has shown children that they too can help those in need.  The illustrations by Vin Vogel are filled with whimsy that are certain to delight young readers.

The life lessons in this book will live on in a child’s mind. I give it five bags of goodies for great content.

Lois Brandt is the author of Maddi's Fridge, illustrated by Vin Vogel.

Years ago Lois peeked into her best friend’s refrigerator and found empty shelves and
one small carton of milk. Her best friend’s family didn’t have enough money to buy
food. Maddi’s Fridge is the result of that moment.

A teacher by trade, Lois weaves together diverse images and events to create stories
for children. She lives near Seattle, WA, with her husband, assorted kids, two dogs,
and a fluffy cat who thinks he’s a dog. This is her first picture book.

What do whistles, crumbs, strands of hair and grandpa’s chair have to do with this detective story?  You’ll just have to open this book and ruffle the pages a bit to find out!  Maggie Mae is hard at work.  She’s got the tools and the know how to track down a thief. No one gets in her way.  She is relentless.

This is a delightful story about a little girl who puts her detective talents to work.  Her Grandma has a problem that needs immediate attention.  Maggie Mae is there on the job to help. Grandpa, well, not so much.

I think young children will love the story of Grandparents, cookies, a brother, and a dog, along with a story of mystery solving.  These pages illustrated by Jack Foster, who by the way never disappoints with his larger than life illustrations, is a fun and entertaining read for young boys and girls.  

Margo Dill, author of Finding My Place, has now written Maggie Mae Detective Extraordinaire, The Case of the Missing Cookies, a delightful detective story to engage children in the track down of a thief.  The story moves along. It’s fun, entertaining, and sure to hold a child’s attention. I give it five whole bag of yummy cookies.

The Birthday Book Club Snatching

 

Although the title of this book describes the plot of the story, it does not do justice to the adventures that take place within these pages.  Come battle Neothors in the Galaxy Bratheria with Simon, or maybe your fantasy would be to revel in the Revolutionary war with the Redcoats attacking.  Whether you fence with Simon and the aliens on planet Meptee, survive on Blackbeard’s ship with pirates, or dodge the Nazi soldiers in World War II, you will experience Simon’s sometimes brutal and extreme imagination.  Throughout the story Simon’s fantasy is to have someone he can count on always as a good friend.

Simon is viewed as an odd child, whispered about, falsely accused, and laughed at, and all because others are not receptive enough to realize the creative genius within him. The Birthday Book Club Snatching is filled with life lessons,  history,  sibling kindness, Dyslexia,  awareness of those different, fantasy, friendship, bullies, daydreaming, stealing, knowing right from wrong, illegal aliens, educational content, and making the right choices. The most entertaining aspect in the book is of course, Simon’s vivid imagination.  The most virtuous is honesty.

This is a great book for boys, although I’m sure girls will find excitement within these pages that entertain as well.  This is a well written book from The Melinda &Simon Series, authored by Anne Burack Sayre.  I give five ***** stars for this book for the wide range of content, entertainment and life lessons it provides for middle grade kids  Great book!                                                                                                                                                  Purchase book here:

Littlest Angels

 "Magical Mea" is the second book in The Magical  Series, written by the award winning author, Penelope Anne Cole.  Mea is Magical Matthew’s sister, but similarities between the two end pretty much there. Mea and her brother have very different ideas about why, when, and how magic should be performed. 

Matthew and his friend Lily go in search of his little sister Mea for fear of what trouble she may get herself into next.  Mea is unconcerned about her brother and is intent on causing a little mischief, just for the fun of it.  She takes a bus ride, plays in the park, pulls a prank on some boys, and a mom and her baby; all the while, Matthew and Lily are on her trail trying to catch up with her before she does something drastic. 

Matthew has always used his magic for good, but Mea has other ideas.  She finds delight in stumping others with her trickery.  In the end Mea finds the true joy in helping others.  She realizes the only reward she needs for her magic is how people are helped by her instinctive talents.  This second book in The Magical Series has life lessons for children.  It’s a fun read, empowering for kids, and will without a doubt hold a child’s interest.

Kevin Collier has brought the book to life with his vivid and attractive illustrations that are sure to delight any young reader.  I give Magical Mea five stars *****and a lollipop!
