Magical Mea

 about

"Magical Mea" is the second book in The Magical  Series, written by the award winning author, Penelope Anne Cole.  Mea is Magical Matthew’s sister, but similarities between the two end pretty much there. Mea and her brother have very different ideas about why, when, and how magic should be performed.

Matthew and his friend Lily go in search of his little sister Mea for fear of what trouble she may get herself into next.  Mea is unconcerned about her brother and is intent on causing a little mischief, just for the fun of it.  She takes a bus ride, plays in the park, pulls a prank on some boys, and a mom and her baby; all the while, Matthew and Lily are on her trail trying to catch up with her before she does something drastic.

Matthew has always used his magic for good, but Mea has other ideas.  She finds delight in stumping others with her trickery.  In the end Mea finds the true joy in helping others.  She realizes the only reward she needs for her magic is how people are helped by her instinctive talents.  This second book in The Magical Series has life lessons for children.  It’s a fun read, empowering for kids, and will without a doubt hold a child’s interest.

Kevin Collier has brought the book to life with his vivid and attractive illustrations that are sure to delight any young reader.  I give Magical Mea five stars *****and a lollipop!

Magical Matthew

MagMat2x3-100Magical Matthew is an entertaining story that will draw children into the yarn. As they read they will find themselves wanting to acquire Matthew’s abilities.  This child has a special uniqueness that brings help to others.  Matthew enjoys making others happy with his unique powers, but finds he does have some limitations when trying to help his friend.  Matthew finds disappointment in what he thinks he has lost, but then realizes new gifts he does possess. His special new gifts reflect in the older boy he has become.

The story has a bit of a twist and surprise that involves Matthew’s baby sister.  This is a wonderful book for children of many ages, as it is a fun read for younger children, as well as children a bit older.  The story reflects how a child can feel secure in telling an adult a secret, and also how things can change as they grow older.  It shows a child, that growing up does not mean you lose what you had as a younger child, but that you have found new treasures to add to your already beautiful and unique you.

Magical Matthew will not disappoint, and would be a wonderful addition to any child’s library. The author Penelope Anne Cole, has included in her creative story, valuable life lessons to help children trust in those who love them, and to move smoothly to their next level in life.  The illustrations by Kevin Collier are colorful, expressive to the story in detail, and will certainly engage children in an enjoyable read.  Magical Matthew shows love in all his actions.
This book is a keeper, with five *****.

About the author:

Liam Maher grew up in the beautiful gardens
of Dromoland Castle in County Clare, Ireland.
This and the surrounding picturesque countryside
coupled with the old beliefs during his
boyhood days of leprechauns, ghosts and fairies were to inspire his
children’s stories that were to come in later life and originally written
for his grandchildren.
Liam has had two other books published with Guardian Angel, The
Golden Daffodils and Mr. Topper, the Lucky Potbellied Pig.
More are coming soon.
Liam spends his time gardening, keeping fit, entertaining his
grandchildren and searching for leprechauns.

About the Illustrator:
Gin May is an engineering graduate, hailing from Malaysia. Her
greatest interest lies in fantasy art, with an emphasis on human or
humanoid characters. She says she enjoys doing fantasy-based pictures
since she can brush off anatomical mistakes by claiming the character
isn’t human. She lives on a steady diet of instant noodles and potato
chips.

The Plumber and the Wishing Well

What could be more charming than Irish folk lore and Christmas, all wrapped up in to one story of wee people and their magical wishing well?  In this story written by Liam Maher, a beautiful yellow bird tries to find a way for her friend the plumber to buy presents for his children on Christmas Eve.  The bird Tupo, visits her friend in the forest, and receives instruction on how to find a magical wishing well.

Upon her approach the well is covered in unforgiving vines.  Tupo is entertained by music and dance, and witnesses some mystical wee people.  The little people have a problem that maybe Tupo can help them with.  They are sad over the fact that Christmas will be ruined if they do not find a way to fix their problem.

The plumber arrives and notices something most rewarding, but does not share his new found knowledge with anyone.  The little people are delighted to see the plumber, and want to give him riches, but the plumber has other intentions.

This Gaeilge flavored tale with all the influence of the emerald Isle, has a few intriguing turns and twists that will delight a child’s interests. The art work of Gin May is beautifully illustrated, and pops from the page.  This is a heartwarming story of kindness, sharing and consideration for others in need.  The plumber is concerned with how the little people will be able to continue the life they are accustomed to living.  His intentions are to manipulate the chain of events and make life better for everyone.  The story of the Plumber and the Wishing well is truly in the holiday spirit, and lends example for children to practice in their every day travels.

This enchanting holiday story includes a leprechaun, an elf, a fairy, and other interesting characters. With all the charms of Irish folklore and brilliant art work, I rate this book with *****, and because of the wonderful message of sharing, it lends to all.
