There be
dragons in this book. Lots of dragons. These dragons depict the hunger of a child. It’s a clever way to relate to young
children how others feel when they don’t have enough to eat. This story starts
out with one child with a problem, but he soon realizes he is not alone and
others have similar distress. The text written with rhythm and rhyme is sure to
delight little ears.
The story
teaches children how to reach out to their fellow students who are less
fortunate than themselves. The lessons in this book will stay with a child for
a life time. I believe any child who reads this book will remember it for
always and forever.
The colorful
and vivid illustrations in Oliver’s Hunger Dragon pop from the page, and are
sure to delight any child. I can’t say
enough about how informative and educational this book is, and how the lessons
here will stay with a child for many years to come.
It’s just a wonderful book and I loved the way
the author Sherry Alexander expresses the importance for others to take notice
of those in need. Oliver’s Hunger Dragon
is a fun read for young children. In my
view, a keeper for any child’s library.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sherry Alexander, a 2013 graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature, is a writer, author, blogger, and child advocate who writes both fiction and non-fiction for children and adults. This is her first picture book, and comes from her own childhood memory of two Portland Police Officers who brought her family a food basket when they were in need. It is her dream that someday no child will ever experience hunger again.
